About Us
Since 1968, the East Wake Football League has provided young athletes across central and eastern North Carolina the opportunity to learn and play youth football at the community level. The EWFL is committed to developing character, teamwork, and athletic skills in a safe and supportive environment.
The League
League Overview
The East Wake Football League (EWFL) is a non-profit youth football organization serving communities across central and eastern North Carolina. Founded in 1968, the EWFL has grown to include 21 communities and offers competitive youth football for players in three weight/age divisions. The league is committed to providing a safe, fun, and educational experience for all participants. The EWFL operates under the guidelines of USA Football and follows the rules established by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). The league is governed by a board of directors elected by member organizations and is dedicated to the development of young athletes both on and off the field.

Player Safety
USA Football — Heads Up™ Program
The EWFL is proud to partner with USA Football and the Heads Up Football program. Heads Up Football is a comprehensive program designed to make the game of football safer and more enjoyable for players of all ages. The program focuses on proper tackling techniques, blocking fundamentals, and overall player safety. All EWFL member organizations are required to participate in the Heads Up Football program.
All EWFL coaches must be certified through USA Football's Heads Up Football coaching certification program prior to the start of the season.

Age is determined as of August 1st of the current season year.

What We Do
League Functions
The EWFL performs the following functions to support member organizations and ensure a quality experience for all participants.
Establish and enforce rules and regulations governing league play.
Schedule regular season games and playoff competitions.
Coordinate and assign certified game officials for all league contests.
Maintain eligibility standards for players, coaches, and team personnel.
Provide a forum for member organizations to address league matters.
Promote player safety through USA Football's Heads Up Football program.
Recognize outstanding players, coaches, and organizations.
Facilitate communication between member organizations and the league office.
Manage league finances and ensure fiscal responsibility.
Promote the growth and development of youth football in the region.

Fair Play
Rules & Regulations
The EWFL follows the rules established by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) with modifications specific to youth football. All member organizations are required to adhere to these rules. The official EWFL rulebook is available for download below.

Membership Agreements
Returning Organizations
Returning member organizations must submit their signed membership agreement by June 1st to secure their spot in the upcoming season. Failure to submit by the deadline may result in forfeiture of membership.

Certified & Independent
Game Officials
All EWFL games are officiated by NCHSAA-certified officials who are independent of all member organizations. Our officials are trained professionals committed to fair and consistent enforcement of the rules.
Background Screening: All officials are subject to background screening in accordance with NCYS Guidelines

Cheer Explosion
The EWFL Cheer Explosion is a showcase event celebrating the talent and dedication of our league's cheerleaders. Teams from across the league come together to perform and compete in a festive, family-friendly atmosphere. The Cheer Explosion is one of the most anticipated events of the EWFL season, drawing families and fans from all member communities.

Join the EWFL
The East Wake Football League welcomes new member organizations that share our commitment to youth development, player safety, and community engagement. If your organization is interested in joining the EWFL, please review the following considerations before submitting an Expression of Interest.
Your organization must be a non-profit entity dedicated to youth football.
You must have a sufficient number of eligible players to field a competitive team.
All coaches must be willing to complete USA Football Heads Up certification.
Your organization must have access to a suitable practice facility.
You must be able to provide adequate game-day staffing and volunteers.
Your organization must agree to abide by all EWFL rules and policies.
You must be able to meet all financial obligations including membership dues.
Your organization must conduct background checks on all adult volunteers.
You must be located within the EWFL's geographic service area.
Your organization must demonstrate a commitment to player safety and sportsmanship.
Completed EOI forms must be submitted no later than the deadline below. Late submissions may not be considered for the upcoming season.
